If you have been wondering if anyone ever bothered to put together a bid list of direct payday lenders then you would not be alone. There are many consumers who want to have a central source to look at all the direct payday lenders at once.
Rather than just have one gigantic list of all direct payday lenders the concept here is to create and maintain two lists of loan companies.
The first list will all the tribal loan companies that engage in payday lending (so it will exclude the Native American installment loan providers and the tribal line of credit issuers) so that consumers can see just how many firms are based on tribal lands.
The second list will be payday lenders who are licensed in a state and have more rigorous rules to follow, which can be a warning sign for borrowers. Some state licensed firms are very active with reporting a person's loan activity with some third party organizations that are sanctioned by state governments to keep track of how many loans, or how often, a consumer is taking on short-term. Another way of saying that is big brother is watching and will tell these lenders what to do in regards to a consumer getting a loan.
Tracking a borrowers history (amounts, dates, repayments) is not always appreciated by people and sometimes it gets in the way of getting a new loan when it is most needed.
That's one of the big reasons why there are two lists rather than just a single big list, because Native American lenders are truly a different animal and an altogether different form of direct payday lenders, especially as we move into a more regulated and monitored future.

That is over 100 tribal lenders, there are many others but some are so uninteresting or their websites are so questionable that they didn't make it onto the tribal lending list.
There are some distinct absentees from the list, and some are obvious such as Western Sky Financial. Once the king of all Native American lending the entire organization of Western Sky has been liquidated and forced into bankruptcy closure. Another company that is on the list but will be gone on the 2016 list is Gentle Breeze Online. This was another tribal lending bellwether that has been confirmed to have vanished with no news or formal announcement. A third loss, and not nearly as well known, is Red Mountain Loans which may have been acquired by another tribal company.
Finally, we lost Clear Creek Lending which was a lender that provided decent installment loans. It's unfortunate to lose this organization because they were very flexible and had a human touch (as opposed to so many of these firms) and they also provided up to a $2,500 installment loan. Clear Creek was taken over by AWL (American Web Loan) and the terms on the new AWL loans are not as good as those previously offered by Clear Creek.
Overall we still have a large number of tribal companies to choose from if we need a loan, however most of them are limited in the dollar amounts they are willing to loan out. Losing companies like Clear Creek and Western Sky make the landscape all the more bland. Fortunately we still have Mobiloans, Spotloan, Plain Green Loans and Great Plains Lending which are now the "Big 4" in tribal lending.
